Einleitung

The mission of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is medical translation: transferring biomedical research findings into novel approaches to personalized prediction, prevention, diagnostics and therapies and, conversely, using clinical observations to develop new research ideas. The aim is to deliver relevant medical benefits to patients and the population at large. The BIH was founded in 2013 and is funded 90 percent by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and 10 percent by the State of Berlin. Since 2021 the BIH has been integrated into Charité as its so-called third pillar.

Experienced Bioinformatician – Genomics/NGS data analysis (f/m/d)

We are looking for a hightly motivated scientific researcher with a background in bioinformatics to join the team of Prof. Dr. Beule. You will be responsible for in depth WGS data analysis in a translational research project in cooperation with colleagues from medical genetics, pediatrics and nephrology. Our bioinformatics team is passionate about understanding genetic variations and their connection to pheno-types and aims to translate biomolecular innovation in biomedical innovation. The lab is part of the national networks for WGS data in research and clinical care, thus providing opportunities for additional cooperation. The ideal candidate will be a team player with in depth understanding of bioinformatics processing of sequencing data and their application in clinical and research settings.
 

 

Ihr Aufgabengebiet:

In the CADS Project you will:
  • analyze project needs and translate biomedical research questions into bioinformatics projects
  • design, implement and deploy NGS data analysis workflows
  • select and benchmark methods and tools, define and perform appropriate QC measures
  • develop innovative sequence analysis approaches when standard methods are not adequate
  • automate processing and results reporting
  • interpret and present analysis results to coworkers and collaboratours
  • present and publish results
  • acquire third-party research funds
  • supervise graduate and master's students

Ihr Profil:

Master's degree in bioinformatics, computer science, genetics or similar and at least 3 years of work/research experience in the analysis of NGS data; a doctorate is a prerequisite and it is advantageous if obtained in the corresponding research field.
  • in depth understanding of computational methods for NGS analysis and the usage of public data resources, bioinformatics databases and file-formats required; good understanding of NGS sequencing protocols is a plus
  • Sound experience in genetics of rare diseases required
  • Good programming skills in bash and Python required, experience with R, and database systems, is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to produce well designed and documented code required, proficiency in using git is required; knowledge in software engineering and test automation is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems with academic/open source software is required; ability to work well with existing code base and quickly trace and solve problems is a strong plus
  • Proficiency working in a Linux environment needed; experience with HPC clusters is a strong plus
  • Team oriented with good written and verbal communication skills, experience with working in interdisciplinary teams centered around a biomedical question and with cooperation partners is a strong plus
