Einleitung

The mission of the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) is medical translation: transferring biomedical research findings into novel approaches to personalized prediction, prevention, diagnostics and therapy and, conversely, using clinical observations to develop new research ideas. The aim is to deliver relevant medical benefits to patients and the population at large. The BIH is also committed to establishing a comprehensive translational ecosystem as translational research area at Charité – one that places emphasis on a system-wide understanding of health and disease and that promotes change in the biomedical research culture. The BIH is funded 90 percent by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and 10 percent by the State of Berlin. The two founding institutions, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC), were independent member entities within the BIH until 2020. As of 2021, the BIH has been integrated into Charité as the so-called third pillar; the MDC is privileged partner of the BIH.

The BIH Molecular Epidemiology Unit is looking for a

PostDoc in COVID-19 Clinical Study (m/f/d)
(fulltime, starting from 01.01.2022)

Current therapy options for COVID-19 are lacking. The BMBF funded CATCOVID clinical trial will investigate the therapeutic potential of blocking a chemokine receptor to alleviate the pathological hyper-inflammation. We will investigate the molecular consequences by single cell sequencing and will monitor the immunological response to therapy.

Ihr Aufgabengebiet:

Your responsibilities in the context of the CATCOVID will be:
  • to prepare nasopharengeal samples of patients for scRNA-sequencing
  • to analyse scRNA sequencing data (under supervision of the collaboration partners from the Digital Health Center)
  • to perform immunomonitoring by flow cytometry and ELISA
  • to analyse the effects of the therapeutic intervention based on the derived molecular and clinical data

Ihr Profil:

  • A PhD in biology, biochemistry, physics, biotechnology, immunology or similar is required
  • Experience with molecular biological methodsis required
  • Sound statistical knowledge is required
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) is required
  • Ambitious, self-driven, a thirst for answering scientific questions and aim to build a scientific career in biomedical data science research
  • Prior research experience in computational analyses of NGS data (e.g. scRNA) is desirable
  • Experience with flow cytometry is desirable
  • Experience working with data of epidemiological cohorts is desirable

Wir bieten:

  • The Molecular Epidemiology Unit of Prof. Irina Lehmann provides a dynamic, collaborative, challenging, and rewarding research environment. The department offers access to cutting edge experimental tools in the field of single cell (sc) sequencing and immunology
  • Remuneration according to E13 TVöD VKA-K
  • The grouping takes into consideration the qualifications and the personal circumstances of the candidate
  • Appointment duration until 31.12.2023
  • Family-friendly, flexible working hours
